Flor has been very busy with events!

CIS celebrated Día del Niño by honoring our students’ rights—like the right to a good education—and their role in caring for the planet. They planted sunflower seeds as a symbol of growth and received small gifts and candies to make the day extra special!

CIS wrapped up the Big Brothers Big Sisters program,a partnership that brought together high school mentors (Bigs) from Capital and middle school students (Littles) from Cesar Chavez. Meeting once a week, these pairs built powerful connections rooted in trust, encouragement, and joy.
Watching the Littles’ excitement each week as they waited for their Bigs to arrive was a beautiful reminder of the impact consistent, caring relationships can have. Whether they were talking, playing games, or just sharing space, the bonds formed went far beyond mentorship—they created a sense of belonging and support that will last well beyond the school year.
This initiative was made possible thanks to the vision and dedication of Maria, our CIS Student Success Facilitator at Capital High. Being part of it has been a truly meaningful experience for everyone involved.
Thank you to Maria and all the Bigs and Littles who made this program so special!
As the school year comes to a close, so do some of our most heartfelt programs at CIS. Nuestra Jornada was one of them—a safe, nurturing space where middle school students could reflect on loss, share their voices, and build healing connections.
In a time of change and growth, our students need spaces where they can simply be—seen, heard, and supported. Through art, conversation, and community, Nuestra Jornada reminded us how powerful it is to walk this journey together

in honor of Mother’s Day, CIS invited a special group of parents to join us for coffee under the theme: “From Mom to Mom—Come Have Coffee with CIS.”
We shared meaningful conversations guided by questions like:
• What did you enjoy most about this school year?
• How can CIS improve next year?
• How can you support us moving forward?
What came from this gathering was more than feedback—it was a powerful connection. A strong group of parent leaders emerged, ready to walk alongside us next school year with energy and commitment.
We may not know what the new school year will bring, but one thing is clear—it’s already rooted in community, collaboration, and care.
