HONORING THE LEGACY OF OUR FOUNDERS

The Carson Award honors the legacy of CIS of New Mexico founders Bill and Georgia Carson, who began the work of our organization by answering an appeal from a local elementary school. Working closely with members of the United Church of Santa Fe, the Carsons formed the nonprofit Salazar Partnership in 1997 to provide resources to high poverty schools. In 2012, the Salazar Partnership became Communities In Schools of New Mexico.
Each year, CIS of New Mexico recognizes an outstanding group of rising graduates at Capital High School with an open scholarship, the Carson Award. Students are nominated for the Carson Award by Student Success Facilitators. Awardees are those who have demonstrated exceptional courage, strength and dedication to their future. Your support helps our team surround exceptional students with a community of support, empowering them to stay on the path to college and career success.
