Catching Up With Maria: Visit to Santa Fe Community College

The CIS Capital High School team took a group of around 30 students in 9-12th grade to explore the opportunities available at the Santa Fe Community College. We got to tour the greenhouse, the Automotive Shop, the dental and medical labs, video production studio, wood and machine shops, and culinary arts labs, just to name a few.

The students enjoyed the college vibe and were excited to see the amazing opportunities available at SFCC. One of our student participants is already exploring dual credit classes at CHS & SFCC and shared some great experiences with our group.

Mr. Ernest Kavanaugh, Leadership Coordinator / Instructor for the Masters Program at SFCC (who is a valued mentor to our very own SSF, Erika) welcomed our students and offered some inspiring words and helpful pointers to our students, reminding them that college is for EVERYONE who wants to go.

It was extra special to meet up with one of our 2024 graduates, Axel, during lunch and hear about his experiences at college. We also got a chance to visit with one of our very own former teachers, Mrs. Ramos. Hopefully the positive college vibe will continue to keep our students motivated and thinking about their next step after high school. – Maria, Student Success Facilitator at Capital High School
